Proceedings against autorickshaw driver for sexually abusing a boy

Police in Maharashtra’s Navi Mumbai district are searching for an auto-rickshaw driver who allegedly sexually assaulted a 13-year-old boy in his vehicle while he was on his way home, an official said on Saturday.

The incident occurred on July 23, he said.

The victim, a Class 9 student from Mulund in Mumbai, was in Kalwa for swimming lessons. When he was returning home alone in an autorickshaw at around 9.45 pm, the driver stopped the vehicle near Vitava petrol station and sexually assaulted him, said Sub-Inspector Rajendra Chitte of Rabale police station.

His actions shocked the boy and he later told his parents about it. After that, they all went to the police and filed a complaint against the driver, he said.

A case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has been registered and efforts are on to arrest the driver, the official said.
