40-year-old island resident arrested after attack by two police officers

Police officers en route to an incident in a town on the Isle of Wight were attacked by a man believed to be at the centre of the incident.

At 10.11pm last night (Friday 26 July) officers were called to an address on Vectis Road in East Cowes.

They responded to a report of property damage to a window there.

When they arrived, a 40-year-old man from Newport was brought before them.

During the arrest, two officers were attacked.

The suspect remains in custody at Newport Police Station pending investigation.
