US woman “raped” by man from Rajasthan

Ajmer (Rajasthan): In a new revelation in the case of the alleged rape of an American woman by a Rajasthan man who was shot dead under mysterious circumstances in Ajmer on Thursday, police said that the accused not only sexually assaulted the woman but also extorted hundreds of thousands of rupees from her on the promise of marriage.

The accused, Manav Singh Rathod, who lives near Rajgarh village in Nasirabad Sadar police station limits, was fired upon after receiving pellets under suspicious circumstances on Thursday evening. The incident took place a day after the American woman filed a complaint against him accusing him of raping her on the pretext of marriage.

DYSP Nemichand Chaudhary, who is investigating the case, said the victim had stated in her statement that the accused had raped her while she was staying in different hotels. Based on the woman’s statement, the police along with the FSL team have visited the said hotels as part of investigation. The police also examined the CCTV footage of the hotels.

The woman in her complaint to the police stated that the accused not only raped her repeatedly by luring her with the promise of marriage but also took lakhs of rupees from her by taking the victim into his confidence, police said. The woman, who was impressed by Indian culture, said she was introduced to the accused through Facebook and came to Jaipur after the accused promised to marry her.

She said that when she saw the defendant on Facebook with a woman who later turned out to be his wife, he told her she was his sister.

The woman said that she had stayed with the accused in a hotel in Ajmer from April 14 to 18 and had also checked into various hotels and the accused’s house.

DYSP Nemichand Chaudhary said they are also investigating whether the hotel manager has submitted Form C, which is mandatory for foreigners. Form C has to be submitted to the relevant CID zone or police station. Chaudhary said they are also investigating the role of the accused’s acquaintance in the illegal hotel stays.
