San Antonio: Police officer in hospital after accident

A total of three vehicles were involved and three people are being treated at a hospital in San Antonio.

SAN ANTONIO – Authorities said a motorcyclist was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries following a three-vehicle crash on San Antonio’s south side that also involved a police officer.

According to San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) Sergeant David Morales, the officer was traveling on West Southcross near Huron when a motorcyclist somehow “got in front of our officers” and struck the patrol car. The collision pushed both vehicles toward a third, a sedan, that was stopped at a red light.

It is believed the motorcyclist was pinned against the sedan before emergency responders arrived. Authorities took the driver to a local hospital. The SAPD officer and the driver of the sedan were also hospitalized but are in stable condition.

None of them have been identified. It is unclear whether the SAPD officer, who was en route to the scene of a fiery car crash elsewhere, had his sirens on.
