Dallas, Texas: Suspect arrested in double murder case

“No matter what punishment he is given, it will not bring our children back! It will not fill the void of never seeing them again or hearing their voices,” said one mother.

DALLAS – Dallas police this week arrested a teenager who was involved in an officer-involved shooting and who also has two felony warrants for his arrest stemming from an incident four months ago.

Police say 19-year-old Deantae Moore was arrested Thursday outside an apartment complex in northeast Dallas after officers attempted to stop a red truck that had been reported stolen.

Moore was arrested along with two other people in the incident on Thursday. A fourth suspect is currently out of custody.

The mothers of Camren Stacy and Kamari Smith-Capps have been waiting for four months for developments in their children’s cases. Stacy and Smith-Capps, both 18 and best friends, were shot and killed on March 22 of this year in the 3800 block of Dixon Avenue. Police believe both were shot in their vehicle in the parking lot.

“It was a true nightmare, my absolute worst nightmare. This wound will not heal with time,” said Kamari Smith-Capps’ mother. Both mothers chose not to reveal their identities to WFAA. The interviews were organized by Lisa Rae Abbe and the No More Violence Organization.

The mothers told WFAA they received a call Thursday from a Dallas police detective informing them of the arrest of one of the suspects in the double murder. They are encouraged by the development and hope that another arrest will follow.

“No matter what punishment he is given, it will not bring our children back! It will not fill the void of ever having seen them or heard their voice,” said one mother. “He has caused the damage that was caused by nothing – pride and selfishness,” she said.

These mothers are connected by their tragedy and will now seek justice together.

“I couldn’t do this without them. We’re one step closer,” she said.
