Pedestrian hit in suspected hit-and-run accident near GCU dies in hospital

PHOENIX – Detectives are searching for a suspect in a hit-and-run crash Thursday that killed a pedestrian, Phoenix police said Friday.

Police responded to the corner of 35th Avenue and Camelback Road near Grand Canyon University and found a pedestrian with serious injuries. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation revealed that the pedestrian was crossing Camelback Road away from the marked crosswalks when he was struck by a motorist traveling west on Camelback Road.

According to police, the driver exited the vehicle on foot near the corner of 39th Avenue and Elm Street, about a mile from the accident scene.

This is an ongoing investigation.
