Candlelight vigil held for toddler killed in drive-by shooting – NBC 6 South Florida

Family members and the community are demanding justice after a young boy was killed in a drive-by shooting in Fort Lauderdale earlier this week.

Days after Fort Lauderdale police said 3-year-old Rylo Yancy was shot and killed, his family, loved ones and community members gathered for a candlelight vigil Friday night.

They prayed and demanded justice. They also carried his favorite comic book character, Spider-Man.

“You really took something from us, I have never felt like this before,” said Rylo’s great-grandmother Marcia Johnson.

Rylo’s face shone brightly on a mobile billboard Friday night. The billboard, like his family, is asking for tips and information that will lead to an arrest. Each time it lit up, his family became more emotional.

“He told me he was fine. He said, ‘Grandma, I’m fine, Grandma, I’m fine,'” Johnson said.

Rylo was playing in the park on Sunday when he was killed. Police said they found the two cars involved in the shooting, but not the people responsible. Earlier this week, the city’s mayor, police chief and community leaders called for an end to gun violence.

Over the past five weeks, Fort Lauderdale has been rocked by gun violence. There have been three shootings with 11 victims, two of whom were toddlers, Rylo and two-year-old Deagoo Henry, who is now recovering at home.

Rylo’s family is sticking together a little tighter, and they won’t stop until justice is served.

“You have done something to my family, but I know God, I know my God, he will bring justice for my baby Rylo,” Johnson said.

Broward County Crime Stoppers has increased the reward to $10,000.00 for information leading to the arrest of the suspect(s) in this case.
