North London man who paid for online child sex abuse jailed

A north London security controller has been sentenced to three years in prison after paying for live streams of child sexual abuse.

Graeme Wilson, 68, commissioned the vile child abuse film from his home in Barnet and paid to watch it online.

Wilson was arrested in November 2019 by the National Crime Agency, which found chat logs in which he instructed people in the Philippines via Skype to sexually abuse children.

The 66-year-old also ordered the children to abuse themselves and each other. Two of the people who facilitated the abuse were arrested in the Philippines earlier that year.

The records showed that he had ordered the sexual abuse of children aged 13 to 16 on at least four occasions in 2017.

Police also found evidence that he had paid the moderators between £18 and £23 per live stream for the abuse.

Wilson admitted five counts of arranging and facilitating the commission of a sexual offence against a child and three counts of arranging or facilitating the sexual exploitation of a child and was sentenced to three years in prison at Southwark Crown Court this week.

He will also be given a sexual assault prevention order and placed on the sex offenders’ register for life.

“Wilson played a significant role in the sexual abuse of children thousands of miles away,” said Adam Priestley of the National Crime Agency.

“He paid to have them exploited for his own gratification; the fact that he did so behind a screen does not absolve him of any responsibility.

“His actions have helped fuel demand for this financially motivated crime in the Philippines, which poses a significant threat globally and in the UK.”

Julia McSorley of the CPS said: “Wilson’s intended victims were sometimes as young as 13 and the acts he incited were disturbing and depraved.

“Wilson partially admitted his actions, saying he only participated in fantasy chats on the websites before taking full responsibility and pleading guilty.”
