Community mourns teenager hit and killed in Lancaster County

A 16-year-old hit and killed in Lancaster County is being remembered as a young man of faith. Curtis Groff was also known as Curt at White Oak Church in Penn Township, where he attended services and was an active member. Those who knew him said he had a kind spirit, was a leader and loved the Lord Working along West Sun Hill Road. Police said the driver did not stop. That person has since been identified, but no charges have been filed. “He was curious. He loved the Lord and he was a good worker. He was just a nice young guy,” Bruckhart said. Bruckhart said he has worked with Groff’s father for nearly 30 years. He remembers the young man he watched growing up. “He was loved by the youth group and the entire family,” Bruckhart said. Groff served as president of the youth group, and Bruckhart also mentioned the teen’s love of hunting. Bruckhart said that while the family is going through a difficult time, prayer and support will get them through. “I can’t imagine what it would be like – I’ve never lost a child – but the Lord gives us the grace we need,” he said. A celebration of life will be held Saturday morning at White Oak Church.

“All-rounder, popular. He would help anyone,” said Bob Bruckhart, a church member and family friend.

Groff was hit May 2 while working on the side of West Sun Hill Road.

Police said the driver did not stop. The person has since been identified, but no charges have been filed.

“He was curious. He loved the Lord and he was a good worker. He was just a nice young guy,” Bruckhart said.

Bruckhart said he worked with Groff’s father for nearly 30 years. He remembers the young man he watched growing up.
