Shots fired at Sunriver home; no injuries reported, woman later taken into custody without incident

SUNRIVER, Ore. (KTVZ) — A report of a shot fired at a Sunriver home Thursday night prompted police, who determined the woman may have been experiencing a mental health crisis, police said. The area was secured, neighbors were notified and she was taken into custody Friday morning without incident.

Officers were dispatched to a residence on Acer Lane because a firearm had been fired inside a residence, Police Chief Stephen Lopez said.

Witnesses testified that the home’s sole resident may be suffering from a mental health crisis and that they heard a gunshot inside the home, he said.

Sunriver Police and Deschutes County Sheriff’s officers arrived to secure the area, notify surrounding residents and make contact with the women, who refused to speak with officers.

After police verified that the woman was home alone and “had no intention of harming others, they attempted to deescalate the situation by moving away from the home and observing it from a distance,” the police chief said in a news release.

Sunriver police monitored the home until Friday morning, when they again made contact with the woman, who agreed to come out and was taken into custody without further incident, Lopez said.

“The Sunriver Police Department would like to thank the Sunriver community for their patience while this incident was peacefully resolved,” Lopez wrote. “We would also like to thank the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance.”
