Two dead in car crash in northwest Phoenix

Early Friday morning, two people were killed in Phoenix when their car crashed into a pole and burst into flames, according to police.

Phoenix police said officers responded to a 911 call from the 12800 block of North 35th Avenue at about 6 a.m. on July 26. They found a woman outside a burning car. Phoenix Fire Department also responded and extinguished the fire. The woman was taken to the hospital, where she died.

After police extinguished the car fire, they found another victim in the car, according to a press release.

Witnesses told police the car was traveling north on 35th Avenue at a high rate of speed when it spun out of control and struck a metal utility pole, a news release said.

The names of the victims were not released.
