Kirk Cousins, Michael Penix Jr. Stout at Atlanta Falcons Training Camp

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — The spotlight has been on Atlanta Falcons quarterbacks Kirk Cousins and Michael Penix Jr., and during Friday’s training camp practice at IBM Performance Field, both passers turned in solid performances.

Cousins made 15 of his 16 aerial shots in various 11-on-11 sessions, but only four of his attempts came against the Falcons’ first-team defense. He still made all four of his attempts, though, and his surgically repaired right Achilles tendon showed no signs of trouble.

Penix, meanwhile, completed 7 of 12 passes, but three of his incomplete passes were well-placed throws. Tight end John FitzPatrick had two drops while receiver Rondale Moore failed to catch what may have been Penix’s best throw of the day, a 55-yard dart down the left sideline that hit Moore’s hands but fell incomplete.

Additionally, Penix worked with the third-team offense and faced Atlanta’s starting defense, which created a particularly noticeable disadvantage at the line of scrimmage.
