Lok Sabha Elections 2024 | Sandeshkhali reports on BJP conspiracy to defame Bengal: Abhishek Banerjee

He alleged that the BJP made women sign on blank paper and then complaints were sent to the NCW accusing them of sexual atrocities in Sandeshkhali.

Banerjee criticized the BJP over the Sandeshkhali issue and called it a “post-independence mega conspiracy to defame Bengal”.

Earlier, TMC had announced that it would file a complaint with the Election Commission against NCW leader Rekha Sharma for being “one of the main conspirators in the Sandeshkhali issue”.

The TMC national general secretary questioned whether the CBI, which is investigating allegations of sexual atrocities against women in Sandeshkhali on behalf of the Calcutta High Court, will probe the statements of some women in alleged videos shared by the TMC.

He alleged that Rekha Patra, “the person nominated by the Prime Minister as candidate” from LS seat Basirhat, where Sandeshkhali sits, had in an alleged video questioned the identity of the women brought to Delhi by the BJP to challenge President Droupadi to meet Murmu.

Referring to the video in question, Banerjee claimed that the members of the Sandeshkhali contingent who met the President may not have been victims at all.

Banerjee said that the TMC called the BJP “anti-Bengali” because it wanted to “defame” the state over a handful of votes in the elections.

The TMC leader also questioned the CCTV footage shown at the Raj Bhavan on Thursday over allegations of sexual assault on a woman and alleged that not everything was shown in it.

“The state should approach the Supreme Court over the incident,” he said.

Banerjee demanded an apology from the governor over the allegations made by the woman.

“NCW has not asked even a single question about this incident,” he said, accusing it of political bias in favor of the BJP.

The TMC chief said he was sure that “anti-Bengali” forces trying to “defame” the state would get a befitting response through their votes.

Stating that he has been campaigning for the party’s candidates across the country for the last three months, the TMC’s alleged deputy said: “I am sure it is only a matter of time before the anti-Bengal forces are thrown off.” “

While campaigning across the state, Banerjee has repeatedly accused the BJP of trying to malign the state over allegations of atrocities in Sandeshkhali and the Center has not released funds to the Mamata Banerjee-ruled state for this reason.

The TMC chief is contesting from South 24 Parganas district seat in West Bengal for the third consecutive time.

Banerjee filed his nomination at the district office in Alipore here after arriving there with a huge procession of supporters from his constituency and Kolkata.

Stating that he has had the opportunity to serve the people of his constituency over the last decade, he said: “We want to ensure that development works in Diamond Harbor remain in full swing.”

His Diamond Harbor development model has been a hot topic of discussion in the past and has also been criticized by the BJP and other parties who alleged that opposition forces in the constituency were being put under pressure.
