Third season of “Daryl Dixon” renewed, Melissa McBride returns

“The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon” has been renewed for a third season at AMC ahead of Season 2, “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carole.” The announcement was made Friday at San Diego Comic-Con.

The spin-off series will be produced and set in Spain. The production location is Madrid, with extensive on-location filming planned in the regions of Galicia, Aragon, Catalonia and Valencia.

Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride and Louis Puech Scigliuzzi appeared in Hall H along with showrunner David Zabe and director and executive producer Greg Nicotero to preview the upcoming second season of “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon,” this time subtitled “The Book of Carol.”

Reedus will reteam with “The Walking Dead” co-star McBride in the upcoming season, which premieres Sunday, September 29, on AMC and AMC+. They will reprise their roles as Daryl Dixon (Reedus) and Carol Peletier (McBride).

“I couldn’t wait for Melissa to show up. We’re partners in crime,” Reedus said during the panel. “To see Melissa come to Europe and kick ass.”

The official description for season two states that “both face old demons as she struggles to find her boyfriend and he struggles with his decision to stay in France, creating tension in the nest.”

In season three, Carol and Daryl will continue their journey home and to their loved ones. As they try to find their way back, the path leads them further and further astray and through distant lands with ever-changing and unknown conditions, while witnessing the various effects of the Walker apocalypse.

“I am thrilled to announce a third season and to be working alongside the brilliant Melissa McBride,” Reedus said in a press release. “Season 2 is one of my favorite stories on this show. Watching Melissa shine alongside our brilliant cast and crew is one of my fondest memories of playing this character. I hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed filming it and we can’t wait to continue the story.”

“I’m really excited about the new challenges for Daryl and Carol, who are so far away from everything they’ve ever known… what that means for them, what it means for each of them, separately and together,” said McBride. “There’s so much more to come in France for the upcoming second season, and a breathtaking finale. And now Spain! I already know that David Zabel’s storytelling will bring out the best of everything that makes Spain so beautiful and unique. We start shooting there in just a few weeks… we’re so excited!”

In addition to Reedus and McBride, the series also stars Clémence Poésy, Laika Blanc Francard, Anne Charrier, Romain Levi and Eriq Ebouaney. Showrunner Zabel is an executive producer alongside Gimple, Reedus, McBride, Nicotero, Angela Kang, Brian Bockrath, Daniel Percival, Jason Richman and Steve Squillante.
