Daryl Dixon: Extension for season 3

“The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon” returns with season 3 – but with a big surprise. The third season of the AMC original is produced and set in Spain.

The news was announced Friday at San Diego Comic-Con during an event for the show in Hall H. Series stars and executive producers Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride joined the panel alongside cast member Louis Puech Scigliuzzi, showrunner David Zabel and executive producer and director Greg Nicotero. Production on the third season begins next month and will take place in Madrid. Extensive location filming is also planned in the regions of Galicia, Aragon, Catalonia and Valencia.

“France has made Daryl and Carol’s story an epic poem with what we found there. What’s coming in Spain may even surpass that – and we’re so damn happy to bring audiences more of the Terrific Two along with new, compelling characters in a never-before-seen, beautiful, horrifying corner of their broken world,” said Scott M. Gimple, Chief Content Officer for The Walking Dead universe.

The third season of the AMC drama follows Carol (McBride) and Daryl (Reedus) on their journey back home and to the people they love. “As they try to find their way back, the path leads them further and further astray and through distant lands with constantly changing and unknown conditions, while witnessing the various effects of the Walker apocalypse,” a press release for the series states.

The second season of The Walking Dead spin-off is scheduled to premiere on September 29. In the upcoming episode, subtitled “The Book of Carol,” Daryl will help Isabelle (Clémence Poésy) and Laurent (Louis Puech Scigliuzzi) escape the Pouvoir des Vivants in France, while Carol simultaneously searches for her longtime best friend.

“We are so proud of these shows and incredibly grateful for how this new chapter in The Walking Dead Universe has been embraced by fans,” said Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks, in a statement. “Sending Daryl and then Carol to France was such an inspired and visually stunning move for this franchise, a chance to do something truly different. We can’t wait to continue the travels of this iconic duo with a third season produced and set in Spain, another beautiful country with a passionate TWD fanbase already buzzing with anticipation.”

Reedus added that he “couldn’t be happier” to announce Season 3 and to continue working with McBride. “Season 2 is one of my favorite parts of this show and one of my favorite parts to tell. Watching Melissa shine alongside our brilliant cast and crew is one of my fondest memories of playing this character. I hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed filming it and we can’t wait to continue the story,” Reedus said.

“There is still so much to discover in France for the upcoming second season, and a
breathtaking finale. And now Spain! I already know that David Zabel’s storytelling brings out the best in everything that makes Spain so beautiful and unique,” added McBride.
