9-year-old Durham boy found, mother arrested after Amber alert

DURHAM, NC (WNCN) – Durham Police have located a missing 9-year-old boy following an Amber Alert late Thursday night.

Durham police found Geon King-Parriett and his mother around 1:30 p.m. Friday at an apartment complex in the 2200 block of South Roxboro Street in Durham.


The mother, Mariah King, 33, was arrested and taken to the Durham County Jail, police said. Geon, who was reported to be OK, was also in police custody.

King was charged with child abduction in connection with the Amber Alert, Durham police said in a news release Friday afternoon. She was also served with two warrants for failure to appear on a probation violation.

The Amber Alert was first issued shortly before 10:30 p.m. on Thursday. Authorities believe Geon was abducted by his biological mother, Mariah King.

Her last known whereabouts were 202 S. Benjamine Street, the Amber Alert said.

Mariah King is being held in the Durham County Jail on $70,000 bail.
