Rusk man dies in car crash Thursday | Local news

A car accident at 8:25 a.m. on Thursday, July 25, resulted in the death of 36-year-old Derek James Burns of Rusk.

According to a report from the Texas Department of Public Safety, Burns was traveling south on U.S. 69 in a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado.

About four miles north of Rusk, Burns veered off the east side of the highway for unknown reasons. Burns oversteered and lost control of the truck when he struck a tree and was ejected from the vehicle.

Burns was pronounced dead at the scene.
