3-year-old boy killed in two-car drive-by accident found

The two cars used in the drive-by shooting that killed a toddler at a birthday party in Fort Lauderdale on Sunday have been found, but no one has been arrested yet.

Rylo Yancy, 3, was playing on the playground during a child’s birthday party at Riverland Park on Sunday afternoon when one or more gunmen fired, hitting Rylo and immediately fleeing. Rylo turned 3 in May.

Fort Lauderdale police said Thursday that a red 2024 Mercedes-Benz C 300 and a black 2017 Mercedes-Benz C 300 were used in the shooting. Both cars were found and impounded. Broward County Crime Stoppers has increased the reward for information leading to an arrest to up to $10,000.

Earlier this week, elected officials, first responders, activists and Rylo’s family members gathered at Riverland Park, calling for an end to gun violence and for people to come forward with information.

‘My baby was caught in the crossfire’: Family members and city officials ask for help at playground where 3-year-old boy was gunned down

“Rylo was a happy toddler who passionately loved Spider-Man, his parents, grandmothers, grandfathers, aunts, uncles and cousins,” wrote relative Damia Gilner in an online fundraiser on GoFundMe. “Every Sunday he served as a little usher at the side of his grandmother, with whom he was inseparable. His immediate family members are devastated and will never be the same again.”

Gilner urged anyone with information to come forward to “hold those responsible accountable for their actions.” Rylo is his parents’ only son, she wrote.

“If you know something, say so,” Gilner wrote. “You can remain anonymous.”

Authorities ask anyone with information to call Detective Juan Rodriguez at 954-828-6673, the Homicide Tip Line at 954-828-6677 or Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
