Former state prison sergeant charged with sexual assault

On July 17, a former state prison sergeant was indicted on three counts on charges that he sexually assaulted a fellow sergeant at the Lewis State Prison Complex in Buckeye earlier this month.

Ramon Godoy, 33, was charged with kidnapping, sexual abuse and attempted sexual assault of a correctional officer, Maricopa County District Attorney Rachel Mitchell said.

The incident occurred on July 7, when Godoy told the woman to meet in a gymnasium at the prison complex.

Godoy allegedly held the woman in a chokehold while sexually assaulting her. The woman repeatedly told him “no” and “stop,” according to court documents.

According to MCAO, the woman suffered physical injuries and reported the crime to the police.

Godoy was later arrested in prison while on the job.

During an interrogation by police, Godoy confessed his guilt and told officers that there had been previous complaints against him for groping other colleagues and making sexual comments to them.

“This defendant took advantage of the trust between colleagues and abused his victim in a location where no others were visible,” Mitchell said. “Being a sworn correctional officer does not give you a free pass to abuse.”
