North Carolina mother arrested after being accused of triggering Amber Alert by kidnapping her son

DURHAM, NC (WBTV) – A North Carolina mother accused of running off with her son, prompting an Amber Alert Thursday night, was in police custody Friday.

A 9-year-old boy was abducted from Durham on Thursday evening, July 26, according to an Amber Alert issued shortly before 11 p.m. Authorities believed the boy was with his biological mother, a 33-year-old woman.

The boy and his mother were last seen on South Bejamine Street, officials said. The pair were found Friday on South Roxboro Street near Summit Street – a few miles away in Durham.

The boy was found safe and sound Friday afternoon, authorities reported. The mother was taken into police custody and is being held at the Durham County Jail.

The mother’s photo and identity will be released when she is formally charged. It was not immediately clear what charges she would face. An arraignment date has not been announced at the time of writing.

The circumstances of the Amber Alert and the alleged kidnapping were not immediately known. It was not clear who had custody of the 9-year-old boy at the time of the alert.
