Daily storms could threaten Georgia with flooding, high winds: forecast

GEORGIA — Much of the Southeast, including Georgia, could see heavy rain and localized flooding in the coming days, according to forecasts.

Although part of the Southeast may escape the impending storms, AccuWeather reported that precipitation could extend from northern Florida to southern and western Georgia and westward.

Southeast Texas to western and central Louisiana could be hardest hit by the storms, AccuWeather reported.

However, the National Weather Service has predicted that Georgia will not be free of daily showers and thunderstorms.

Scattered to numerous thunderstorms could hit the Peach State starting Friday afternoon, causing localized flash flooding in north, central and eastern Georgia. Frequent lightning and gusty winds could be possible with a few severe thunderstorms, the NWS said.

Although no severe weather is expected in the region, a few daily storms could eventually become severe and generate localized flash flooding, frequent lightning and high winds, the NWS said.

Dry air will lose momentum in Georgia and the southern Appalachians, forcing humidity levels to decrease slightly, AccuWeather reported.

“Because of this, the risk of at least scattered showers and thunderstorms will persist through the weekend,” AccuWeather reported.

Chatham County and southeast Georgia had a moderate risk of rip currents through 8 p.m. Friday, the NWS said.
