Accidents following yesterday’s rains and floods are being investigated

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Several accidents in Live Oak County are under investigation.

At about 2:30 a.m. Thursday morning, a truck traveling north on 2-81 near George West struck the median, jumped the overpass and rolled several times. Police say the driver, 42-year-old Orlando Palacios, was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle.

He was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died.

A trooper near the Live Oak County-Mcmullen County border also encountered a fatal crash early Thursday morning at the intersection of 59 and FM 6-24. Investigators determined that a Ram pulling a trailer of goats failed to obey a stop sign and was struck by a semi-truck at the intersection. Both vehicles left the road, struck a stop sign and crashed through a chain link fence. Two men, ages 43 and 23, were killed.

Mitchell Chapman, 63, the driver of the semi-trailer, was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.
