Mayor and police chief hold press conference on recent fatal shootings in Fort Lauderdale

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida. – Fort Lauderdale’s mayor and police chief will hold a press conference Wednesday to address gun violence in the city, including a Drive-by shooting over the weekend that left a toddler dead.

Local 10 learned Monday that 3-year-old Rylo Yancy died at Broward Health Medical Center after being injured in a drive-by shooting in Broward County on Sunday afternoon.

A marker at the scene showed a bullet hole that had damaged a red slide. Yellow crime scene tape surrounded the shaded playground and picnic area on the northern edge of Riverland Park & ​​Pool and extended to Southwest Ninth Street, near 26th Avenue in Fort Lauderdale.

Neighbors who heard the gunshots said they were scared. The shooting occurred near sports fields and swimming pools. It was also near Fort Lauderdale Fire Station 47 and two schools.

Police confirmed that detectives had seized one of the cars involved in the shooting, but no arrests had been made in connection with Rylo’s death.

Broward Crime Stoppers issued a flyer Wednesday saying it will pay up to $10,000 for any information leading to an arrest.

Crime Stoppers also announced that it would pay up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest or arrests in connection with the fatal shootings of Michael “Kirby” McKinney Jr., Tiarra Holiday and Sheldon Lawrence.

Authorities said McKinney was shot shortly after 7 p.m. on June 14 while standing outside near the 700 block of Northwest 22nd Road.

The press conference will take place at 10:30 a.m. in Riverland Park, where Rylo was fatally shot.
