A man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous negligence in the killing. Six people, including two children, died in a traffic accident.

The collision between a Ford Focus carrying a family and a motorbike carrying a married couple occurred shortly before 4pm on Sunday on the A61 between Wakefield and Barnsley.

The police are asking anyone who saw a grey Porsche 911 in the area at the time of the accident to come forward.

Shane Roller, 33, his 30-year-old partner Shannen Morgan and their daughters Rubie and Lillie Morgan-Roller, aged nine and four, were killed in the crash.

A GoFundMe page set up for Mr Roller and Ms Morgan’s surviving daughter, who was apparently not with them at the time of the crash, had reached more than £340,000 by Wednesday afternoon.

The page, set up by family friend Paul Hepple, said the 11-year-old had “lost her whole world in an instant” and that he had been caring for her since the tragedy.

But Mr Hepple said the 11-year-old would stay with her “wonderful, loving and capable” aunt, who would receive the money raised to help and support her.

He said: “The love and support we have received from all of you has been truly overwhelming and we are deeply grateful.”

Staff at a primary school in Barnsley paid tribute to the deceased children, saying it had been “a pleasure to teach them”.

Athersley North Primary School issued a statement saying: “So many people in our communities will be feeling this devastating, tragic loss.

Mr Roller’s brother Callum wrote on Facebook on Sunday: “I am deeply heartbroken. I will miss you all!”

“It has absolutely broken my heart and it has completely destroyed both sides of the family!”

Christopher Barton, 56, and Janine Barton, 48, also died in the accident with the BMW S1000 XR motorcycle they were riding.

In a tribute that her son paid through West Yorkshire Police described them as a “loving, caring mom and dad who always put me above everything else.”

The couple recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary.

Superintendent Alan Travis of Wakefield District Police described the accident as “an absolutely tragic incident in which six people lost their lives”.

Detective Sergeant Steven Suggitt of West Yorkshire Police said: “I would also like to ask anyone who has dashcam, doorbell or CCTV footage of this car which may assist our investigation to please contact us.”

The Ford Focus in which the Morgan-Roller family was traveling is said to have burst into flames after the accident.

A section of the road in front of Barnsley Golf Club was closed for several days while police investigated the scene of the accident.
