Bristol County man dies in jet ski accident while doing his favorite activity and will be remembered as one of a kind – Fall River Reporter

A Bristol County man who died in a jet ski accident last weekend is being remembered.

According to police, Rutland police and firefighters were called to Turkey Hill Pond at 4:23 p.m. Saturday for a report of a jet ski that had overturned in the water and the driver disappearing underwater. Witnesses reported that the person appeared to be in distress before going under.

Emergency crews searched the area by boat and along the shore to find the man. Additional crews arrived at Turkey Hill Pond to assist, including the Fire District 8 dive team, several area fire departments, the Massachusetts State Police and the Massachusetts Environmental Police.

Sadly, at around 7:49 p.m., divers recovered the body of 46-year-old Thanasi Mitros of Attleboro.

Family members say Mitros died doing what he loved on the water. Mitros’ stepdaughter said he was always proud of everyone around him and cared more about others than himself. Friends say he was one of a kind and would do anything for anyone.

A GoFundMe fundraiser was organized to cover funeral expenses.

The causes and circumstances of this incident are being investigated by the Rutland Police Department with assistance from the Massachusetts Environmental Police and the Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office.
