Taipei MRT Wenhu line and Kaohsiung light rail cease operations

Taipei, July 24 (CNA) — Services on the Taipei Metro’s Wenhu Line (Brown Line) and the Kaohsiung Light Rail Transit system were suspended Wednesday afternoon due to strong winds caused by the approaching Typhoon Gaemi.

Services on Taipei’s Wenhu Line, which has many elevated sections, were suspended from 4:15 p.m. after the last train departed at 3:30 p.m., the Taipei Rapid Transit Corp. (TRTC) said.

However, the remaining Taipei Metro lines have been operating as usual since Wednesday afternoon, the company said.

According to the TRTC website, all train service should be suspended when gusts reach force 10 (89–102 km/h) or the 10-minute average wind speed reaches force 7 (50–61 km/h) on the Beaufort scale.

Meanwhile, in southern Taiwan, the Kaohsiung Light Rail Transit System also temporarily suspended operations from 5 p.m. on Wednesday as the storm was accompanied by increasing winds, Kaohsiung Rapid Transit Corp. said.

According to the Kaohsiung City Government Transportation Bureau, Kaohsiung city buses will also stop operating from 7 p.m. on Wednesday due to increasing winds.

Previously, the Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) announced on Wednesday that all train services in Taiwan would be suspended from Wednesday noon to Thursday noon.
