OKC police arrest motel employees accused of stealing from guests

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – Oklahoma City police arrested two men last week on suspicion of stealing money and a personal item from a guest at the motel where the two worked.

According to police, the incident occurred on July 17 at the Remington Inn near Northeast 63rd Street and Bryant Avenue.

According to court documents, a man checked into the motel and fell asleep in his room. While he was sleeping, two employees used a master key to gain entry and stole it, according to the documents.

Police identified the suspects as Robert Kirk and Maurice Redd. Officials say when the victim woke up, he noticed $300 cash missing from his wallet and cell phone. The victim told police no one else had permission to enter his room.

According to the documents, police were able to confirm the alleged incident using surveillance video. The documents state that the officer who responded to the call was unable to recover stolen property from the arrested suspects.

Oklahoma City police gave News 4 staff some tips Tuesday on how people can protect their valuables.

“Make sure your property, your personal belongings, are safe,” said Dillon Quirk of the Oklahoma City Police Department. “They sell small, secure, lockable boxes that are designed for travel where you can store your belongings.”

Quirk said the victim was fortunate to emerge from the incident unharmed.

“When you’re dealing with a crime like this, where someone actually enters an occupied space, the situation could always escalate and become a more volatile situation,” Quirk said. “Fortunately, this time it wasn’t that situation.”

News 4 reached out to motel management Tuesday for comment and clarification on whether the two suspects still have their jobs. A spokesperson declined comment, saying their attorney advised them not to.
