Iyawe described Ahmed’s comments as “careless”, “unprofessional and unpatriotic” in light of calls for protests against the federal government.

Iyawe claimed that Ahmed made the claim without first conducting any investigation.

The MP claimed that the NMDPRA CEO’s ill-advised remarks had provoked anger among the people of Nigeria, who saw his weakening of regional refineries and his insistence on fuel imports as an act of economic sabotage because high concentrations of dangerous compounds had been found in the imported goods.

Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas had the resolution passed by voice vote and it was adopted.

The House of Commons then called on the federal government to suspend the CEO of NMDPRA while the allegations are investigated.

Legit.ng reported that Aliko Dangote said he was ready to hand over control of the world’s largest refinery to the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC).

The wealthy Nigerian was speaking about an alleged disagreement with the Nigeria Midstream Downstream Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) and NNPC, one of the refinery’s main equity partners, over the sulphur content of petroleum products produced by the refinery.

The refinery, which was commissioned by former President Mummadu Buhari, is said to have cost over $20 billion.
