Surfer attacked by shark – Carvemag.com

Kai McKenzie, 23, of Bonny Hills, was in the surf at North Shore Beach in Port Macquarie when he was attacked about 11am on Tuesday. He saw the shark coming and was able to fight it off, but suffered a severed right leg in the process.

Clinging to life, he managed to ride a wave back to the beach. A retired police officer used the dog’s leash as a tourniquet to stop the bleeding before the victim could be flown to hospital by helicopter.

Kai is currently in the John Hunter Hospital where he has undergone surgery and is in a stable condition. As you can imagine, the upcoming medical costs of his recovery and rehabilitation are something no one would ever be prepared for. Funds raised will go towards supporting Kai in every aspect of his recovery.

Please donate to this family so they can support Kai in his recovery and rehabilitation. I am a neighbor of the McKenzies. They are a local family with a heart of gold that would never expect or ask for anything from anyone. So let’s give back and show them they have the support of the community in this. – Lauren Mac
