South Loop reopens after fatal July 24 crash

HOUSTON — The South Loop has reopened after a fatal crash early Wednesday, according to the Houston Police Department.

According to Houston TranStar, the incident happened at 1:20 a.m. eastbound near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The highway was reopened just before 5 a.m.

KHOU 11 traffic expert Jennifer Reyna advises drivers to use the service road as an alternate route.

Houston police said officers and firefighters arriving at the scene found an SUV crashed into a tree. The driver, a man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Weather conditions are believed to have played a role in the crash, as overnight storms were moving through the area at the time.
