Antioch police search for man who stole nearly $500,000 worth of jewelry from JCPenney

(KRON) – Antioch police are searching for a man who stole nearly $500,000 worth of jewelry in June.

Surveillance video (above) shows the man smashing glass display cases with a hammer at the city’s JCPenney before reaching in to steal the merchandise.


The theft occurred on June 15 at 10 p.m. JCPenney is located in the Empire Crossing Shopping Center at 4951 Slatten Ranch Road.

The store appeared to be empty at the time of the incident. Police said the suspect entered the store at 8:25 p.m. and hid there for over an hour and a half before striking.
