Police ask for information about shooting in Sterling

Police are asking for information or video footage of a shooting in Sterling.

On July 23 at approximately 5:58 p.m., Sterling Police were notified of a shooting incident in the area of ​​13th Avenue and E. 5th Street in Sterling. Officers responding to the call found evidence of a shooting and two men with apparent gunshot wounds. Preliminary investigation revealed that the men were passengers in a vehicle that was shot at, which then caused the vehicle to strike a power pole. Both victims were transported to CGH Medical Center and subsequently transferred to OSF Peoria. Their condition is currently unknown.

According to a news release from the Sterling Police Department, this is believed to be an isolated incident and there is no apparent threat to the public. Sterling police were assisted by the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Department, Rock Falls Police Department, Sterling Fire Department, CGH EMS, Illinois State Police Crime Scene Service and Illinois State Police Troop 1.
