NFL Films breaks down Buffalo Bills rookie running back Ray Davis

The Buffalo Bills had a strong 2024 NFL Draft as they addressed their pressing needs at wide receiver and safety. One of the players Buffalo drafted in the later rounds has received plenty of praise, including from someone who has been in the NFL long enough to know what he’s talking about.

NFL Films Senior Producer Greg Cosell recently appeared on One Bills Live to give his take on the Bills’ fourth-round pick, running back Ray Davis. Among other things, he said that while Davis is “small,” he’s “not small,” referring to Davis’ strong frame with his 5-foot-8, 211-pound roster.

Davis, picked 128th overall, comes to the NFL with a productive college career as well as some traits that could earn him playing time next season. “It packs a lot of speed and power into this tough, compact frame. It has an explosive blast over a short area. He’s not a high-speed guy, but they (the Bills) have that,” Cosell said.

Although Davis has some tools that can make him valuable on the football field, he will certainly lag behind James Cook, the projected running back for next season. However, Davis could play a similar role to Latavius Murray last season, as a fullback that the Bills use for short-yardage situations and on the goal line when he feels comfortable with the offensive.
