Four injured in accident at construction site on Southern Tier I-86 – Finger Lakes Daily News

Four people, including a New York State Department of Transportation employee, were injured in a crash on Interstate 86 in the Southern Tier. The incident occurred in a busy construction zone near Exit 79 in Windsor.

A State Police investigation at the scene revealed that four vehicles were traveling eastbound on I-86 when traffic was slowed due to a construction vehicle leaving its lane and entering the construction zone.

A semi-truck failed to stop and struck a Hyundai. The Hyundai was then pushed into a parked DOT vehicle in the construction zone and also into an Audi that was driving in front of the Hyundai. Four people were taken to Wilson Medical Center with minor injuries.

The state police would like to remind drivers to be particularly careful in construction sites.

“There are people working in these areas who deserve to get home to their families. Don’t talk on your phone, don’t drive too fast, and watch for vehicles leaving or entering the area.”
