Dog owner finds dog shot in front of house in Fort Lauderdale – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. (WSVN) – A dog owner wants answers after her beloved dog was shot and killed outside her home Tuesday afternoon.

Fort Lauderdale police responded to a reported shooting involving a dog in the area of the 1200 block of NW 9th Street shortly after 5:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Dog owner Denise Sims said she couldn’t find her dog, Pup Pup, and went outside to look for him, only to find her 15-year-old Yorkie mix lying under a tree on her neighbor’s lawn with a gunshot wound.

“She was still breathing a little bit, but the next thing I remember is her taking her last breath and that was it,” she said.

Denise said Pup Pup was shot twice. Her little body succumbed to the injuries before Denise had a chance to get her to an animal hospital.

“It’s like I’m losing one of my children,” she said. “She’s the best dog I’ve ever had.”

While Pup Pup was hiding under a tree, the FLPD launched an investigation.

The owner said she has had Pup Pup since she was one year old and knows she would never hurt anyone.

“She doesn’t hurt anyone, she just wants to be petted and that’s all,” said Denise.

She said she couldn’t understand why someone would want to hurt her little dog, but hoped the police would find the perpetrator.

“Wherever I moved, she was there,” Denise said. “When I came to Fort Lauderdale, she was with me. I came all the way from Pompano. She just wanted a little petting, a scratch, a caress, and that was all she needed. That doesn’t make sense. Do what’s right for Jesus instead of doing what’s bad for the devil.”

The FLPD is currently investigating the circumstances of the shooting.
