52-year-old rubber tapper claims to have brought two charges in court for raping his daughter

KUALA PILAH: A 52-year-old man filed a case against him in a local court on Wednesday (July 24) for raping his daughter on two occasions.

The father, a rubber tapper, pleaded not guilty after the charges were read to him before Judge Norma Ismail.

In the first indictment, he was accused of raping the then 19-year-old girl in a house in Gemencheh between November and December 2019 at around 10:30 p.m.

According to the second charge, he is said to have committed the crime on July 8 of this year in the same house.

The accused was charged under Section 376B of the Penal Code, which, if convicted, carries a prison sentence of between 10 and 30 years and flogging.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Norazihah Asmuni offered the accused bail of RM10,000 and surety for each offence.

She also asked the court to order the defendant to stay away from the victim.

When Judge Norma asked the defendant if he wanted to appeal a lower bail amount, the defendant said no.

Norma then set bail at 10,000 RM with a surety for each crime and ordered that the defendant not have any contact with the victim.

She has set August 26 as the next mention.

Police arrested the accused on July 14 after the victim’s aunt filed a complaint about the rapes.

Police said the victim, who is a slow learner, also gave birth to a baby girl who is now four years old.

The victim is the eldest of four siblings.
