MOBILE, Alabama (WKRG) – The commander of the Mobile Police Department was fired today, shortly after an investigative report into allegations made by former Mobile Police Chief Paul Prine was made public.

The firing of Commander Kevin Levy was announced after the City Council forwarded the report to the city administration and Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson released a statement on the investigation.

According to a Mobile City Council press release, the report was prepared by special counsel William Athanas of the law firm Bradley Arant Boult Cummings. Officials said he worked on it for more than 500 hours over eight weeks before delivering the report to the City Council on the afternoon of July 22.

The report, which examined four categories of allegations, found that “no illegal,
unethical or unpolicy-violating conduct by all City of Mobile employees, with one exception.”

The exception: “Commander Kevin Levy acted illegally and/or violated City of Mobile policy by falsely altering or tampering with City documents and public records.”

Chris Callahan, Levy’s attorney, called the comments “wrong and reckless.”

Callahan said, “I want to state categorically that all of these allegations are completely false. Commandar Levy did not make any false statements. He did not violate any city policy. And he did not alter any signature page of the 321z contract. Furthermore, Commander Levy did not tamper with any government records.”
