The agreements state that the charges could carry fines of up to $45,000 and prison terms ranging from five years and nine months to 22 years, but that Smith will be sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Six other charges and the specification of one charge were dropped as part of the agreement.

Sentencing for Smith is scheduled for July 30, according to court documents.

The charges date back to April 10 and 11, when investigators said in a Vandalia Municipal Court affidavit that Smith attacked his longtime girlfriend at the Knights Inn Dayton at 7575 Poe Ave. in Vandalia.

The affidavit states that Smith “struck his girlfriend of eight years several times, causing severe facial injuries.”

Smith is currently in the Montgomery County Jail on $250,000 bail.
