Williston man dead after police-involved shooting

WILLISTON, ND (KXNET) — On the afternoon of July 23, a man was killed in a violent confrontation with police.

According to Williston police, officers responded to a 911 call near the 1300 block of 18th Street West around 12:47 p.m. after receiving reports of a person armed with a knife.


During an encounter with the suspect, the department stated that an officer fired his weapon, resulting in the man (Matthew Austin Gullo, a 31-year-old Williston man) being shot. Officers performed emergency response on scene and the man was transported to a local hospital for treatment, but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing and Williston Police are working with the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigations on this case. Additional updates will be provided as they become available.
