Credit union’s internal investigation leads to grand theft charges against an employee

Following that review and an internal investigation led by Josh Ross, ICCU vice president of departmental performance, Lewistown Police Department detectives arrested Macey L. Wymore, 31, of Clarkston, on a charge of grand larceny. She was released on $10,000 bail. Wymore is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing in August, the Nez Perce County District Attorney’s Office said.

ICCU’s internal investigation revealed that the Lewiston branch experienced cash shortages in the vault and an electronic bill acceptor (EDNA). The credit union’s investigation included reviewing surveillance footage from inside the branch, reviewing logs from the vault/EDNA devices and interviewing employees.

“There was video evidence of another attempted theft of over $20,000, however Wymore returned the money the next day when she learned of an unexpected audit,” the police affidavit states. “Wymore offered to come into work to help with the audit even though it was not her regular work hours. Wymore returned the money during that time.”

When Ross interviewed Wymore, she allegedly admitted to taking more than $20,000 from an EDNA ATM, taking the money to her desk, and placing it in her personal bag. She also admitted to Ross that she “probably” did this with the intention of stealing the money, but then decided to return it.

After determining that the stolen cash did not appear to be returning through Wymore’s ICCU account, the credit union’s BSA team contacted the $2.2 billion P1FCU in Lewiston, which is eligible to participate in the USA PATRIOT ACT’s 314(b) program, which allows financial institutions to share information to uncover possible criminal activity.

When questioned by police, Wymore admitted to stealing $40,000 to $45,000 from the ICCU on two or three separate occasions.

According to the police affidavit, Wymore admitted to using some of the stolen money to purchase hay for her horses, pay off several loans/lines of credit, pay off several credit cards, and purchase a grave site/headstone for her husband’s grandmother.
