A LaLiga youth player is in an induced coma after suffering head injuries in a domestic accident.

The player is said to have injured himself after falling to the ground following a bout of dizziness at the Palau-solita i Plegamans, Barcelona.

Doctors at a hospital in Barcelona described his situation as “unsafe”.

The 20-year-old’s teammates were informed of the situation on Thursday, and an update is expected on Friday.

The player’s club issued a statement expressing their support for him.

Felix Garreta is on loan from Real Betis to Spanish second division club SD Amorebieta.

Amorebieta issued a statement saying: “SD Amorebieta informs that football player Felix Garreta recently suffered a traumatic brain injury as a result of a fall at home.”

“The player on loan from Real Betis is currently in hospital, with a guarded prognosis and impending development.”

“We are in constant contact with the player’s family and his club.”

Betis released a statement expressing their support for Garreta: “All our support and affection from this club and its supporters goes out to Felix and his family. ‘We are all with you.’

A LaLiga post said: “A lot of encouragement and strength, Félix.” “Football is with you.”

Garreta has played 33 times in all competitions for Amorebieta on loan this season

Garreta joined Real Betis’ academy in 2020 and made two appearances for the club’s senior team, including one in LaLiga.

This season, the central defender has played 33 times for Amorebieta across all competitions.

It was thought he would be part of the Spanish under-23 squad at this summer’s Olympics.

Amorebieta had considered requesting a suspension of Sunday’s home game against Villarreal B, but the game is set to go ahead.
