Two dead bodies found outside the city limits of Amite on Tuesday morning; the victims are believed to be a couple

AMITE – Tangipahoa Parish sheriff’s officials are currently investigating a double homicide reported Tuesday morning just outside of Amite City.

Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Gerald Sticker said emergency crews found a man and a woman dead in the 600 block of West MLK Street after receiving a 911 call about a shooting around 5 a.m.

The names of the two victims have not been released. Investigators say they were both in their late 20s and in a relationship. The sheriff’s office says it has not yet identified any suspects.

The Amite City Police Department and the Louisiana State Police are assisting officers in the investigation.

“Our three agencies are working together feverishly to find out who did this and why,” Sheriff Sticker told WBRZ. “We will do everything in our power to identify the perpetrator and bring him to justice.”
