Ty Coleman of Memphis Animal Services remains under investigation

The investigation into suspended Memphis Animal Services director Ty Coleman is still ongoing, Memphis Chief Operating Officer Antonio Adams told Memphis City Council members Tuesday morning.

Adams said he could not comment further on the investigation because there were “serious allegations” against Coleman and he wanted “due process to take its course.”

Councilwoman Jerri Green asked if Coleman had officially retired from the leadership position at MAS. Green said she had received many questions from constituents about whether he would be reappointed to the director position.

Adams again said he could not say more about Coleman because the investigation was still ongoing.

The small update on the city’s animal shelter came during the City Council committee meeting, where both Adams and MAS interim director Mary Claire Borys presented a six-month “performance improvement plan” for the shelter.

Within the next 30 days, according to the plan, the MAS wants to conduct a thorough internal investigation and also “stabilize operations.” The MAS wants to stabilize the veterinary service and reorganize the advisory board.
