North Carolina man arrested in Virginia and charged with murder of Spring Lake woman in March

A Spring Lake man was arrested in Virginia and charged with the murder of a Spring Lake woman.

William Lawrence Lee Jr., 61, of Spring Lake, was arrested in Suffolk, Virginia. Lee is charged with first-degree murder, assault on a female, and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

On March 16 at 3:29 a.m., the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call about a stabbing in the 1300 block of Atomic Drive in Spring Lake. When officers arrived, they found a woman who had been stabbed multiple times.

The victim was Beverly Williams, 50, of Spring Lake. She was taken to the hospital and died of her injuries on March 17.

On Friday, Lee’s case was processed at the Cumberland County Detention Center and he was denied bail. At his first court appearance on Monday, he was given a $750,000 bond for the premeditated murder charge and a $100,000 bond for the assault on a female and assault with a deadly weapon causing great bodily injury.
