Arrested 1: Darius Kitchen, African American, 32 years old, resident of Valdosta
Arrested 2: Clarence Eady, African American, 26 years old, resident of Valdosta
Victim: Martevalous Williams, African American, 32 years old, resident of Valdosta

On July 18, 2024, at approximately 3:35 a.m., Valdosta Police officers responded to the Park Chase Apartments after a citizen called 911 to report that a person had been shot. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a 32-year-old man, later identified as Martevalous Williams, in the stairwell of the apartments with a gunshot wound to the upper torso. Officers and paramedics from South Georgia Medical Center attempted to save the man’s life, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Through investigation, detectives determined that Williams was involved in an argument with 32-year-old Darius Kitchen and 26-year-old Clarence Eady, who is also the victim’s brother. During the altercation, a firearm was pulled out and Williams was shot, resulting in his death.

During the interrogations, Kitchen and Eady told detectives numerous stories and lies about what had happened.
Both were arrested and taken to the Lowndes County Jail.

Kitchen was charged with voluntary murder (a felony), aggravated assault (a felony), and possession of a firearm during the commission of a serious crime (a felony).

Eady was charged with tampering with evidence (felony) and obstructing an officer (misdemeanor).

“This is another senseless act of violence in our community. Our investigators have worked diligently to get answers for Mr. Williams’ family. The fact that the victim’s own brother did not cooperate and hindered the investigation by being present at the shooting is unbelievable. Tragically, the victim’s children are left without a father and with a family grieving his loss. We are grateful for the support of the Child’s Advocacy Center during the investigation of this case,” said Police Chief Leslie.
Manahan.
