Missing swimmer found dead off Madeira Beach

Authorities said they received reports of a swimmer in distress near John’s Pass on Monday evening.

MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. – A swimmer who went missing Monday night was found dead, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said.

Officials said the search for the swimmer began Monday after authorities received reports of a man in distress in the water off John’s Pass.

Authorities said they had to suspend the search overnight but would resume it on Tuesday as soon as it was light outside.

However, just before the search was set to resume, the sheriff’s office said a passerby found the swimmer’s body on the shore of Madeira Beach near Gulf Boulevard and 150th Avenue.

The man’s identity has not been released at this time, but authorities expect more information to follow shortly.
