Drag race star injured in fatal car crash

Morphine Love Dion, star of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 16, was injured in a car accident that resulted in one death.

Morphine, who finished fifth at this year’s show, took part in the fan convention DragCon LA over the weekend.

According to Entertainment Weekly, she was injured in the accident early Sunday morning. Five other people, including fellow drag artist Kaos, were also injured when their Uber crashed on the 10 Freeway in the Jefferson Park neighborhood of Los Angeles.

A statement posted to Morphine’s Instagram story read: “(She) was in a serious car accident while in an Uber. She sustained multiple injuries but is thankful to be alive. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. Some space and time would be appreciated while she focuses on her recovery.”

Canada’s Drag Race Star Kaos, who appeared in the spin-off’s third season, was also involved in the crash, fellow queen Xunami Muse wrote on X/Twitter.

Kaos, who finished ninth in the 2022 season, released a similar statement to Morphine.

“I’m fine, just been on bed rest,” she wrote. “I’ll write a post explaining what happened this weekend once I’m back in the right frame of mind and can explain everything. Right now I’m resting and sorry I won’t be doing any DragCon posts (until) later, probably next week.”

The California Highway Patrol was called to the single-vehicle crash at around 3:30 a.m., according to local news, although other cars were reportedly involved in the crash, causing a pileup. One person was trapped in their car and later died of their injuries, police told ABC7.

An Uber spokesperson told Entertainment Weekly: “Our deepest condolences go out to everyone affected by this terrible accident. We are working to contact the driver and passengers to check on their well-being.”

Morphine Drag racing Sisters have sent their love and well wishes to the Queen. Kandy Muse wrote: “Please keep (Morphine) in mind and wish you a speedy recovery mi amor,” and Sapphira Cristál posted: “Show Morphine love everyone. I’m so glad my sister and everyone involved is safe and well.”

Xunami later wrote: “These were the worst two days ever, but I’m so glad (she) and everyone else in the car are OK.”
