Operations at Basco and Palanan airports suspended

MANILA, Philippines — Operations at Basco and Palanan airports were suspended as severe weather conditions continued on Tuesday due to Typhoon Carina (international name: Gaemi).

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said all flights to and from Basco and Palanan airports have been cancelled.

The Basco and Palanan airports are located in areas classified under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Tuesday.

According to Pagasa’s bulletin early Tuesday morning, the southwest monsoon (locally called “Habagat”) enhanced by Typhoon Carina is expected to bring moderate to heavy rainfall in many areas in western Luzon.

It triggered Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 in ten areas of Luzon, while Carina maintained its strength as it crossed the far northern Luzon and moved towards Taiwan.
