Man killed in Newington bike crash identified as NH marathon runner Robert Kennedy

The marathon community is mourning the loss of Robert Kennedy, a longtime Boston Marathon runner from Durham, New Hampshire. Newington Police said emergency crews responded to a bicycle accident on Little Bay Road around 10 a.m. Saturday. Authorities said Kennedy was riding with a group of cyclists during the Bikes and Beers cycling event when he lost control and fell to the ground. Police said Kennedy suffered a serious head injury and was taken to the hospital. Authorities said he died the same day. In his lifetime, Kennedy completed 19 Boston Marathons. At 76, he was one of the oldest Boston Marathon runners in New Hampshire. His years of efforts raised more than $300,000 for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. In addition, Kennedy completed marathons in all 50 states three times.
