A man was sentenced to 14 years in prison after sexually abusing a child over a period of five years.

Peter Cutler, aged 62, of Heath Road, Leighton Buzzard, pleaded guilty, which led to his conviction last week.

After serving his sentence, he will have an extended parole period of seven years after his release, which, according to Bedfordshire Police, is “due to his dangerousness”.

He must also comply with a restraining order and a sexual violence prevention order.

Cutler abused his victim for five years after she confided in a trusted adult.

While out on bail, he admitted to family members that he sexually abused a child and claimed he did not know what he was doing.

He pleaded guilty:

• Seven cases of sexual assault of a child through penetration

• Six cases of penetrative sexual activity with a child

• Five cases of sexual abuse of a child

• Two cases of sexual acts in the presence of a child,

• Two cases in which a child was made to watch a sexual act

Detective Constable Matt McCarthy, of Bedfordshire Police’s Vulnerable People Protection Team, said: “I am pleased that Cutler has received a fitting sentence and is now off the streets and no longer a danger to other children.”
